Wine Making

Upon arrival at the Quinta da Leda winery, the hand-harvested grapes underwent an additional selection on the sorting table to ensure that only those in pristine condition made it into the final wine. The grapes were destemmed and gently crushed and were vinified by variety or plot to give Luís maximum blending options. Fermentation took place in a combination of stainless-steel tanks and robotic lagares and a long post-fermentation maceration on the skins ensured optimum extraction of velvety tannins. Following fermentation, the wines were transferred to Vila Nova de Gaia where they were aged for 18 months in new French oak 225-litre barrels. After careful analysis and numerous tastings, Luís assembled the final blend and continued to track its development after bottling before making the decision to declare the vintage.
