Bairrada

Located in Bairrada, Campolargo is a third-generation family-owned producer, now with two estates - Quinta de Vale d’ Azar and Quinta de S. Mateus.  The first generation sold wine to negociants.  Taking over in the 1960s, Martinho Campolargo’s son abandoned winemaking.  Preferring to focus on grape growing, Manuel expanded the vineyards, growing innovative varieties to help his negociant clients court new export markets.  In 2000, Manuel’s sons Carlos and Jorge not only returned to making wine, but also established the family’s eponymous label.  With 160 hectares planted to 28 grape varieties of local, broader Portuguese and French origin, Campolargo is one of Bairrada’s most sizeable and eclectic producers.
