Alentejo

A winemaker turned grape grower and wine producer, Susana hails from Galicia in Spain, but made her reputation as a winemaker in the Douro at Quinta do Crasto. She was the first female winemaker to win a Winemaker of the Year award in Portugal, which recognised her work in Alentejo, where she re-located in 2007.  In 2009, she decided to establish her own label.  It took two years to find her vineyards, one of which was in Portalegre.  

Inspired by Portalegre’s unique terroir and rich heritage of old field blend vineyards, Susana’s range is now wholly sourced from this cooler, elevated Alentejo sub-region’s old vines.  And she has moved her winery to Portalegre and just planted a ‘new/old’ vineyard from heritage cuttings.  Her wines are characterful and adventurous, especially her Sidecar label on which she collaborates with a different producer every year.
