Collection: Herdade do Cebolal

Setúbal

This progressive, exciting estate in the village of Vale das Éguas, Peninsula de Setubal has deep roots.  It is currently managed according to regenerative farming principles by the 4th and 5th generation - Isabel and Luís Lufinha Mota Capitão, her son and the winemaker.  Sustainability is the watchword and, with biodiversity in mind, Herdade do Cebolal comprises 85 hectares of which 20 hectares are vineyards and 65 hectares of forest.   The first 7 hectares are already converted to Syntropic Agriculture.

The vineyard is planted to indigenous and international varieties, the oldest parcels being around 80 years old.   In the winery, minimal intervention is the order of the day, with low doses of sulphites in all wines (30 to 60mg).  Luis’ innovations also include earlier picking to produce drier, textural wines of lower alcohol.  Textural and mineral with well-structured acidity, Herdade do Cebolal’s flavoursome wines are grown on a range of soils, including limestone and schist.
